I’ve got huge respect for what NASA achieved earlier today, landing the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), otherwise known as the Curiosity Rover, on the surface of Mars in one of the most complicated landing sequences I’ve ever heard of! Due to the spacecraft’s weight, the normal method of dropping it on the end of a parachute wasn’t an option, so they did something that, when I saw the animation, looked like a scene from a Terminator movie! If you haven’t seen the story yet, it’s on the BBC News website at or you can follow the Rover on Twitter (yeah, for real!) if you follow @MarsCuriosity or search for #MSL .

Anyone else impressed by this mission?
