Telling the Bees by Emma K. Leadley
(Newcon Press, 2023)
Reviewed by Steven French
The novella begins with Sarah pottering about on her farmstead, ‘Three Bees’, on a warm August day in 2035, when a black hatchback pulls up out front. The driver introduces herself as Brea and tells Sarah that not only were the two of them in a throuple with Blake but that Sarah’s real name is actually Becca (the three Bs—get it?!). Sarah/Becca barely has time to reflect on this encounter when Blake shows up to reinforce the message that he and Brea want her to rejoin their ‘hive mind’. Oh, and that Becca was a neuro-hacker in her other like.
