I recently joined. I live in the united states and have never really been published. I have been writing science fiction more as a hobby for many years, but I have recently taken it more seriously. I want to continue to improve my craft. I am really impressed with the organization and the wealth of information available at the BSFA. I think it is really awesome. keep up the good work!
Hello David and, as Matt says, welcome to the BSFA! Hope you enjoy your membership. If you’ve got any questions, we’d love to see them on the Forum here.
My immediate question for you, given what you said in your post, is what kind of SF you write, and whether you’d be interested (if you’re not already in one) in joining a writers’ group? The BSFA Orbiter groups are available to members who want to share their writing with fellow genre writers for friendly critiques. If you want to know more, let me know and I can put you in touch with Terry Jackman – she coordinates the Orbiter groups.
I am really excited about the orbiter writing groups. I have already received some information on the orbiter groups so please put me in touch with Terry. I tend to gravitate towards social science fiction with elements of other genres (murder mysteries, adventure, and spy novels i.e. the fun stuff). My main goal is to tell the best story I can within the genre of science fiction. I am still looking through the information for orbiter but will be joining a writing group soon.

Hi David – Terry’s email address is firstname.lastname@example.org . If you email her and tell her you’re interested in joining one of the online Orbiter groups, she’ll have a look at which groups have got space and then let you know who is in charge of that group and how to contact them.
Good luck – I hope you find the Orbiter groups as useful as I have!
