BSFA Lecture at Eastercon

The 2012 BSFA Lecture at Eastercon will be given by Dr Marc Morris, and is entitled ‘Regime Change in England, 1066′. It draws on his recently-published book The Norman Conquest. The lecture will be given at 2.30 on Saturday April 7th, in the Commonwealth Hall of the Radisson Edwardian Hotel, Heathrow. At long last, the submissions list for the 2012 Arthur C Clarke Award is out! Torque Control and the BSFA are again delighted to be hosting a competition in conjunction with the release of the submissions list, to guess the short list. The winner will received copies of all the shortlisted books, due to be announced at the end of March. John Christopher, 1922-2012

Sam Youd, better known to the science fiction community as John Christopher, died on 3 February, a couple of months short of his ninetieth birthday.  He is best known for his classic post-war apocalyptic novel The Death of Grass (1956) and his children’s series The Tripods (original trilogy 1967-1968, with a prequel published in 1988).
