The BSFA awards are presented annually by the British Science Fiction Association, based on a vote of BSFA members and – in recent years – members of the British national science fiction convention (Eastercon).
The results have now been announced for the BSFA awards for the best
works of 2007, and also for a one-off award (to celebrate the BSFA’s
fiftieth anniversary) for the best genre novel of 1958. The winners
were:
* Best Novel of 2007: Brasyl by Ian McDonald
* Best Short Fiction of 2007: "Lighting Out" by Ken MacLeod
* Best Artwork of 2007: "Cracked World" by Andy Bigwood (cover of disLocations)
* BSFA Fiftieth Anniversary Award -- Best Novel of 1958: Non-Stop by Brian Aldiss
See the shortlists here.
The awards were presented at the 2008 British national science fiction
convention, Orbital, on 22 March in London. As usual, anyone with a
membership of the Eastercon as well as members of the BSFA were eligible
to vote for the awards.
Claire Brialey is now stepping down as the BSFA's awards administrator.
The new administrator, Donna Scott, will open nominations for the 2008
awards in due course; contact her for any further information about the
BSFA awards.
